The Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees approved the largest tax rate decrease in over 15 years Sept. 25.
The gist
The fiscal year 2023-24 rate is $1.1075 per $100 valuation, a 14.34% decrease from the FY 2022-23 rate at $1.2929 per $100 valuation.
The tax rate was approved by the board by a vote of 6-1 with board member Tricia Quintero voting against.
Taxpayers in Dripping Springs may still see an increase in property tax bills at the district's approved rate as home values rise in the area. Property tax bills are determined by the tax rate and property values.
In Hays County, the taxable value of a home for DSISD rose by about 23% from 2022 to 2023, based on preliminary values from the Hays Central Appraisal District.
Also of note
Trustees approved a $122.8 million FY 2023-24 budget June 26, with 61% of the budget focused on payroll.
