The Del Valle ISD board of trustees approved the purchase of nearly 150 acres of land in the fall to build three new schools, including a high school, a middle school and an elementary school.

Plans for the high school have started, and it will be located near the 4 million-square-foot Tesla Gigafactory.

“The new building will have all the innovative and unique opportunities that have become synonymous with Del Valle ISD,” DVISD Superintendent Annette Tielle said. “We are excited to move forward with our second high school to serve our growing population here in Del Valle.”

Christopher Weddle, DVISD executive director of communications, said the high school will be at the intersection of Braker and Taylor lanes in the Whisper Valley neighborhood on the north side of the DVISD school district, and it will be about 410,000 square feet.

“The high school will serve approximately 2,400 students in a growing part of our district,” Weddle said.

Approved by voters last May, the new high school project is part of a $300 million bond package for the district.

“We are committed to providing students with an unmatched college and career foundation to enter into the workforce or higher education after graduation,” Tielle said. “That commitment has guided all of the programmatic planning and development of our second high school.”
