With the end of the school year approaching this month, Austin ISD updated the community on its ongoing superintendent search at a meeting May 11, as well as protocols for virtual graduation ceremonies and school registration.

Superintendent search feedback being collected

By the end of this week, search firm JG Consulting will have reached out to over 500 individuals and organizations in AISD to gather feedback about the district’s ongoing superintendent search, according to board president Geronimo Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said at the May 11 meeting that the board is committed to hearing feedback and conduction the search with transparency. Feedback could help the district understand what residents see as the district’s strengths and weaknesses and what skills are needed in a superintendent.

Residents can fill out an online survey to provide feedback, which can be found here.

According to an April 28 statement by the board of trustees, Superintendent Paul Cruz's last day serving in the position will be Aug. 31, the same day the district has set as a goal to hire his replacement.

Virtual graduations scheduled for June

Although the district has set aside dates for potential in-person graduation ceremonies in August, the district released May 11 a list of virtual graduation dates and times in June to celebrate graduating seniors. The move comes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are going to be holding graduation ceremonies, but they’re going to be looking a little but different,” Cruz said in a video posted online. “We are going to be having virtual graduation ceremonies.”

On June 15, Akins, Anderson, Ann Richards, Austin, Bowie, Crockett and Eastside Memorial high schools will ceremonies streamed online beginning in order at 9 a.m. Each school will have an hour and a half time slot before the next school’s ceremony begins.

Beginning in the same intervals at 9 a.m. on June 16 will be Garza, LBJ, McCallum, Navarro, Northeast, Rosedale and Travis high schools, in that order.

Virtual registration week May 11-15

Austin ISD is holding a virtual registration week for pre-K and kindergarten students from May 11-15. According to the district, parents can call their home campus to learn more information or can register online at my.austinisd.org by creating a new Parent Cloud account and following registration instructions.

More information on pre-k registration can be found on the district’s website.
