Owner Pandiyan Kaliyamoorthy opened the Indian-Mexican fusion restaurant late October in the Oak Hill Plaza shopping center.

On the menu

The restaurant serves classic Mexican dishes like street tacos, burritos and bowls with Indian spices and ingredients. For example, Sivestar dishes include the curry chicken bowl, lamb barbacoa tacos with tikka sauce and the paneer tikka burrito.

Vegetarian entrees are also offered, such as chana masala which includes garbanzo cooked with onion, tomato sauce and Indian spices.

On the menu guests will also find mango and rose lassi, in addition to other beverages.

Sauces and tortillas are made in-house, with tortillas pressed fresh in front of guests as they order.

Kaliyamoorthy said he hopes to add more to the menu, such as a new garlic tortilla option.

Dig deeper

Kaliyamoorthy, originally from the Chennai city in Tamil Nadu, learned culinary arts in India. He then joined the Carnival Cruise Line gaining hands-on experience in restaurant service starting as an assistant cook, then being promoted to First Cook.


After a few years in Houston, Kaliyamoorthy opened his first restaurant Chola Indian Restaurant in 2006, which served Indian food until 2011 when his family moved to South Austin. In 2012, he opened Asiana Indian Cuisine then later sold the restaurant in 2022. Sivestar Indian Tacos has become Kaliyamoorthy’s latest restaurant venture.

The name “Sivestar” is inspired by his children and an homage to his Texas roots, Kaliyamoorthy said. The name combines his daughter’s name, Sivarithikaa, and his son’s name, SivaShankar with the “star” symbol associated with the Lonestar state.
