Granny's Tamales will begin serving gourmet Tex-Mex tamales, desserts and more later this summer.

Owners Jeannie and Edward Almeida said they are most proud of the original tamale, which is a family recipe with a brisket and pork mixture. Their second favorite tamale they will offer is the chicken cream cheese jalapeno, Edward Almeida said. Other items on the menu will include pan de polvo—a dessert cookie—and seasonal items such as cocoa bombs and s'mores.

Jeannie Almeida said she carries on her grandmother's legacy by opening her own Granny's Tamales at 2110 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin—formerly Little Caesar's Pizza—more than 20 years after Juanita Gonzalez opened the first Granny's Tamales in Corpus Christi.

Granny's Tamales does not yet have a website or business phone number.
