The details
The skate park will be named Dorian Zev Kweller Memorial Skatepark in honor of a Dripping Springs High School student who died in February 2023. Kweller was the son of local musician Ben Kweller, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony with other family members.
The idea for the skate park began in 2014, and Dripping Springs City Council first approved plans for the park in 2017.
The total construction cost is about $800,000, funded by the city, community fundraising and the 2020 Hays County parks bond. The city also contributed an additional $75,000 for amenities, such as trash cans, sidewalks and benches.
The park will be about 10,000 square feet, and the city provided 1.5 acres of land for the park. Construction is expected to be completed this year.
