Construction has started on a 318-unit affordable housing community in Southwest Austin that will offer housing for residents earning 60% or below the area median income, which is $66,180 for a family of four, according to the Travis County website.

“This project is really helping to eliminate barriers to affordable housing,“ said Jason Arechiga, senior vice president of development with the NRP Group, who is leading the build in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Austin.

One- to four-bedroom apartments will be offered at the four-story, elevator-served property with support services, such as after-school programming, financial literacy training, English as a Second Languages assistance, health and wellness screenings, a first-time homebuyer program and more, according to The NRP Group.

This build will not only help residents looking for affordable housing, but will also result in more than $70 million invested in the community, a NRP Group repersentative said. Other amenities include a resort-style pool, a community lounge, fitness and business centers, a playground, and barbecue pits. Each residence will be outfitted with granite countertops, fully equipped kitchens, LED light fixtures and walk-in closets.

“We're very pleased to break ground on such an exciting development. This site presented an incredible opportunity to develop quality affordable housing in Estancia Hill Country, a 600-acre mixed-use, master-planned community located at the critical intersection of SH 45/I-35,” said Nick Walsh, vice president of development at The NRP Group. “Construction of Bridge at Estancia will provide meaningful benefits to both the local economy and residents through significant job creation and by satisfying the growing need for affordable housing in Travis County. By creating centrally located affordable housing, employers will be able to better attract and retain essential workers. The community is within close proximity to ample retail and dining options, and includes walking trails, parkland and a future connection to the Onion Creek greenway."

The first units for Bridge at Estancia should be available by summer 2023 at 1100 Avenida Mercado St., Austin.
