Sunset Valley City Council on May 4 approved a special use permit and variances allowing San Antonio-based WellMed Medical Management to operate an office for its proposed clinic and senior center at 4715 S. Lamar Blvd., Sunset Valley.

According to Central Texas Management Group—the owner of the commercial property that is also home to Stouthaus Coffee and Cane Rosso—it will return to the city later this year seeking approval of a building permit for the WellMed Clinic and Senior Activity Center project. City Council had also previously approved a variance in January that allows the project to exceed the property’s impervious cover restrictions.

WellMed—which has a network of doctors and practices across the country—serves as a primary care clinic for older adults and focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles, doing preventive care, and identifying early risks of illnesses and conditions. It currently operates nine Austin-area clinics, including one in South Austin at 706 W. Ben White Blvd.

According to WellMed, the group also operates senior activity centers through the WellMed Charitable Foundation, which serves older adults and caregivers by supporting healthy living and helping individuals stay active.
