Houston-based Texas Children’s Hospital is continuing to expand services in the Austin area with plans to have 27 facilities in the area by 2023.

This past winter, the health care organization purchased property in South Austin for a potential future facility. The property is located at the corner of Puryear Road and I-35 in the Manchaca community, and the health care provider said it was exploring options and assessing the needs of children and women in the community when it was initially purchased. Official plans have not yet been announced.

Texas Children’s purchased a similar plot in North Austin at the same time, which is currently being developed into a children's and women’s hospital and is set to open in 2023, according to a May 20 announcement by the company.

Texas Children’s opened its first facility in Austin—Texas Children’s Urgent Care Westgate, located at 4477 S. Lamar Blvd., Ste. 400, Austin—in 2018 and has since opened eight other offices in the Austin area, including the Austin Pediatrics office at 5625 Eiger Road, Ste. 225, in Southwest Austin.
