Austin Public Health confirmed 2,871 new COVID-19 cases in the Austin-Travis County area over seven days from Feb. 2-8, a more than 1,000-case decline compared to the previous seven-day period. From Jan. 26-Feb. 1, the county confirmed 3,901 cases; there were 4,039 cases from Jan. 19-24, according to APH data.
Hospitalizations across the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area have also decreased over the past seven days. There are 446 individuals hospitalized as of Feb. 8 compared to 538 on Feb. 1 and 577 on Jan. 25, while the seven-day moving average of 54.9 new COVID-19 hospitalizations per week Feb. 8 was the lowest level in the metro since Dec. 21.

The area also reported 29 COVID-19-related deaths for the second straight week, with 689 total deaths in Travis County since the onset of the pandemic.

In total, there have been 72,279 confirmed cases in Travis County since last March, with an estimated 67,513 individuals who have recovered and 4,077 active local cases.
