Big V Property Group, owner of Southpark Meadows shopping mall, purchased the property in October 2022 and began new construction on Music Meadows in January 2023. It was previously called The Grove and hosted local musicians from various genres.
The area also had a playground. Angela Reyes, property manager of Big V Property Group, emphasized the playground’s renovation in a press release.
“The closure of the playground was devastating for the community — parents had few nearby alternatives where their children could play safely with others,” Reyes said in the release. “We immediately saw that restoring that playground was bringing back a piece of South Austin’s heart, as well as supporting the tenants at Southpark Meadows. ”
What's new
The updates include new climbing structures and interactive musical theme elements that coincide with the Music Meadows rebrand. The area also has new furniture, turf, lighting, paint, and a water tower marquee sign.
The three-day grand reopening will have several live music performances, pop-up art classes, retailer giveaways, meet-and-greets with Star Wars and Encanto characters, face painting, crafts and more. A container bar will open on the afternoon of Saturday, May 4.
