Rose Haven Bakery and Event Venue opened at 12013 Hwy. 290, Austin, in an 1860s historical building that was once home to Last Chance Dancehall. Run by Christy Seguin of Cakes Rock, Rose Haven offers a bakery and cafe as well as a venue to host a variety of events, excluding weddings.

“There's already a million wedding venues,” Seguin said. “There's nowhere to have the other events. Because I do cakes for all these events, I saw that there's a giant gap in the market that really needed to be filled.”

The building has been undergoing renovations by Seguin and her team since February. The building itself is painted a pastel green, the traditional color used in European gardens, Seguin said. Surrounding the building is a mural of roses and the Rose Haven logo painted by Austin muralist Austin Sepulveda.

Bakery

Rose Haven expands on Cakes Rock's retail front, in which the old location at 4201 S. Congress Ave., Ste. 101, Austin, was too small to continue operating in, Seguin said.

The bakery, now open on Fridays and Saturdays, features a window for guests to see the work of bakers and cake decorators, inspired by the show "Cake Boss," Seguin said.

Cakes Rock features specialty cakes with intricate and custom designs. Seguin has been featured on baking shows, such as "Halloween Wars."

Events

Rose Haven offers the 30-seat Rose Tea Room that can accommodate smaller gatherings, such as a baby shower or birthday party.

The venue also offers the Heritage Rose Hall, which can accommodate up to 120 seated guests or up to 200 standing for larger events, including a prom that was already hosted at Rose Haven in May.

Inside, the building also has space where Seguin plans to host cake and cookie decorating classes for the public as well as allow small community groups to meet. Additionally, what was once a shed has been renovated into an office that will offer services, such as wedding consultations.

Outside features an antique rose garden, planted and tended by Seguin. The surrounding space and patio allows for outdoor seating; games, such as cornhole; and space for pets to run around. The outdoor space can be combined with the Heritage Rose Hall by opening the garage-style doors.

“I want to preserve the historical nature of the building, but I want this to be a warm and welcoming community hub, where people can just come and gather,” Seguin said.
