Kuk Sool Won of Oak Hill Martial Arts will celebrate 15 years of training in both martial arts and life skills in July at 6001 W. William Cannon Drive, Ste. 307, Austin.

“Students are encouraged, empowered and supported not only in the martial arts, but also in life, too,” co-owner Barbara King said.

The martial arts center offers classes starting at age 4 and older, including a senior citizens class for those age 55 and older and women's self-defense workshops. King said martial arts teaches self-control, concentration, focus, teamwork, etiquette, discipline, respect, commitment, character and behavioral development, leadership, and courage. She and her husband, Tim King, teach students at their own pace according to their individual abilities, and students are encouraged to attend as often as their schedule allows, King said.

Students are taught by a certified rank black belt instructor team consisting of 10 black belt instructors.

“Each instructor attends continuing education seminars, workshops and tournaments to add new skills and keep them current in their martial arts practice,” Barbara King said. “The safety of our students is a No. 1 priority at Kuk Sool Won.”

To enforce this, all black belt instructors are CPR/first aid/AED certified and have passed criminal background checks and FBI fingerprint checks, she said.
