The overview
This phase of work, known as C2, joins a larger corridor project—spanning FM 1826 to Old Lockhart Road—aimed at increasing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists as well as increasing mobility.
The enhancements included expanding the four-lane thoroughfare to a six-lane divided roadway from MoPac to Brodie Lane.
Work also includes new traffic signals and crosswalk upgrades at the intersection of Brodie Lane and Bowie High School. At Zuniga Drive, there will also be a new pedestrian crossing light and other safety improvements.
The project includes shared paths for both pedestrians and cyclists, curb extensions to make street crossings safer and drainage improvements to help manage rainwater and reduce flooding.
Work on the Slaughter Lane corridor began in 2021. The total cost is estimated at roughly $23 million for this segment of work and is funded by both voter-approved mobility bonds as well as federal grant funding allocated by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, or CAMPO.
