The gist
Clear, a private company that provides identity verification in airports, will now offer Transportation Security Administration PreCheck enrollment at a kiosk near Checkpoint 1.
This is in addition to security company IDEMIA's kiosk near baggage claim at the Barbara Jordan Terminal where passengers can enroll in the program with an appointment. No appointment is needed to enroll at the Clear kiosks.
The details
TSA PreCheck is meant to speed up the screening process when traveling if deemed low risk by the TSA. The program can cost up to $85 every five years, and passengers don’t need to take off shoes, remove laptops from bags or be screened in full-body scanners.
Clear can cost up to $189 annually and provides expedited identity verification by using biometrics—fingerprints or an iris scan—so passengers won’t need a physical identification card to get through security.
The company now has 27 TSA PreCheck enrollment locations in the United States.
Quote of note
"TSA PreCheck with enrollment by Clear provides a fast and efficient airport experience," Clear CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker said in a news release. "This is a win-win for U.S. travelers who will have access to more enrollment locations, expanded hours and other benefits."
Going forward
