Road closures will occur throughout the city as thousands of runners participate in the 32nd annual Ascension Seton Austin Marathon this weekend.

According to the city of Austin Transportation Department, road closures will begin on Friday, Feb. 16 to allow officials time to set up for the marathon. The closures will remain throughout the entirety of the race on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The rundown

Road closures include the following:

Friday, Feb. 16:
  • E. 9th St. between Congress Ave. and Brazos St. will be closed starting at 9 a.m.
  • Congress Ave. between 7th St. and 11 St. will be closed starting at 4 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 17:
  • Congress Ave. between Cesar Chavez St. and 11 St. will be closed starting at 4 a.m. (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 11th will remain open)
Sunday, Feb. 18:
  • Early closures begin at 2 a.m.
  • Race route closes at 6 a.m.
  • Major cross streets remain open until runners arrive
  • All affected roads will reopen by 6 p.m. at the latest
Something to note


MoPac, Lamar Blvd. and Hwy. I-35 will remain unobstructed for northbound and southbound travel.

Ben White Blvd. (Hwy. 290) and FM 2222 (Koenig Lane) are unobstructed for eastbound and westbound travel.

Those planning to attend as spectators are advised to access the course by walking, biking or taking public transit.
