Beginning Dec. 26, Austinites and Travis County residents will be able to recycle their Christmas trees through curbside pickup or at one of several community drop-off locations.

The details

Austin Resource Recovery curbside customers can leave holiday trees out for collection through regular composting service. The city advised ARR customers to set trees on the curb by 5:30 a.m.

For all area residents, Austin and Travis County will have several drop-off locations available after Christmas.

In Austin, trees can be deposited at Zilker Metropolitan Park on Dec. 30, Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The recycling service is available at the park's polo fields area. More information is available from the city online.

Trees left with ARR at the park will be turned into mulch, which will be made available to community members on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Jan. 10 at 9 a.m.

Across Travis County, five recycling locations will be available from Dec. 26 to Jan. 10 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. More information is available from the county online.

Only all-natural trees stripped of ornaments, lights, stands, and other materials and accessories will be accepted at city and county recycling locations. Trees should not be bagged or covered in netting or rope.

Bulk drop-off service for commercial customers will also be available at two county service centers. Retailers must schedule bulk drop-offs by calling either the West Service Center at 512-854-8140 or the East Service Center at 512-854-9114 Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Additionally, broken holiday lights and packaging will be accepted at the ARR Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center, located at 2514 Business Center Drive, Austin, by appointment.
