Various events to honor the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon will happen across the Austin area in mid-September. This list is not comprehensive.

Austin

Wake Up Stronger Mount Bonnell Climb

To mimic running up both twin towers, participants climb Mount Bonnell 44 times. The climb will begin at 7 a.m. and break for a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. in honor of the first tower being struck. Fundraising goes toward My Veteran Passion.

COTA Memorial Tower Climb




Participants are invited to climb the 419 stairs up the Circuit of the Americas observation tower as many times as they want. Four trips replicates the 110 floors of the Twin Towers. The climb is organized by the Samaritan Center, and registration opens at 7:30 a.m. before climbing begins at 8 a.m.Memorial at the Parker Jazz Club

The Parker Jazz Club’s nighttime event will feature music by its House Band with special guest Jennifer Johnson as well as a silent auction. A portion of the ticket sales support Hats Off for Veterans, a nonprofit that awards grants to veterans.Heroes Run

The Travis Manion Foundation will host a 5K run or ruck and a 1-mile run or walk in honor of Austin Fire Chief Travis Maher who was deployed to ground zero after 9/11. Maher passed away in 2022 due to toxic exposure after responding to the terrorist attack.Cedar Park

Annual Remembrance at Veterans Memorial Park




American Legion Hunter-Morris Post 911 is partnering with the city of Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Department to host a 9/11 community remembrance ceremony in the Veterans Memorial Park amphitheater. The national anthem will be sung by a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and Texas Veterans Commission Chair Laura Koerner is the keynote speaker for the event.9/11 Memorial Scrimmage

The Austin First Responders Hockey Club and Round Rock Firefighters are hosting a hockey game for first responders to participate in to remember those lost on 9/11. Proceeds are going toward the Campbell Family and Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This is the fifth time Ice & Field at The Crossover has held the event.

    Georgetown

    Patriot Day Ceremony

    The Sun City Texas Community Association will have guest speaker Texas state Sen. Brian Birdwell at its Patriot Day Ceremony in the Social Center Ballroom. Performances include patriotic music by the Florence Elementary Honor Choir and the Georgetown Fire Department Bagpipers, along with the American Legion Post 228 Color Guard.Leander




    Leander 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

    The Leander Fire Department will host a ceremony at Veterans Park with a flag presentation, speakers and an invocation for lives lost on Sept. 11. Parking is available at the Leander Public Library and in a parking lot at Sonny Drive and Bagdad Road.Round Rock

    Flags at Old Settlers Park


    The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department is organizing the placement of thousands of American flags at Yonders Point in Old Settlers Park to remember the 2,996 lives lost during 9/11. The flags are being placed on Sept. 6. by The Texas Fallen Project Inc. along with over 40 volunteers from various organizations.
