Austin-based Freebirds, a fast-casual burrito joint, has a new owner.

What happened?

Sun Holdings, a restaurant management company, has acquired all 64 Texas locations of Freebirds World Burrito, the company announced in an Aug. 14 news release. The restaurant has 10 locations in the Austin area and 13 in both the Houston and Dallas areas, according to its website.

Sun Holdings boasts a portfolio of over 1,500 restaurant locations across the globe, including Applebee’s, Arby's, IHOP, McAlister’s Deli and Golden Corral, according to its website.

Helping to expand Sun Holdings’ profile, Freebirds brings its commitment to menu innovations and a customer-centered approach, Sun Holdings CEO Guillermo Perales said in the release.
