2 eateries find new homes in Bastrop, Elgin

From steak to Louisiana-style crawfish, two local restaurants recently reopened in new homes.

Crawfish KRAK House moves to West Bastrop: Owner Kris Martinez’s crawfish spot serves Louisiana-style crawfish with sides including potatoes, corn and sausage.

Joseph’s Steak House reopens in fresh space after 14-month closure: The local favorite began serving customers in March following a 14-month closure. The eatery was previously located at 199 Hwy. 290, Elgin.

Leander approves zoning change to allow possible subdivision amid community outcry

Leander City Council reached the needed supermajority at its April 17 meeting to approve a zoning change on Private Road 920.

The property in question, 551 Private Road 920, is about 10 acres in size, according to agenda documents. A letter of intent showed the rezoning request was to eventually allow for the Oasis Subdivision project.

Hwy. 71 night closures begin in Bastrop; expect delays through June

Bastrop drivers should expect some delays along Hwy. 71 between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. through June as lanes close to make way for road construction.

Contractors with the Texas Department of Transportation began the lane closures May 12 at the intersection of SH 304 and Edward Burleson Road, progressing westbound.


Bastrop Public Information Officer Colin Guerra said work will take place Sundays through Thursdays, and is expected to continue through the end of June, weather permitting.

Poco Loco Supermercado now open in Georgetown

Poco Loco Supermercado opened May 7 in Georgetown, a store employee said.


The Hispanic grocery store sells meats, produce, baked goods and beverages, and has several locations throughout Central Texas, according to previous Community Impact reporting. This is the chain’s first location in Georgetown.

Austin officials consider rezoning former Apple Campus for mixed-use development

The former Apple Campus site off Riata Vista Circle in Northwest Austin could be converted into a mixed-use development featuring residential and retail space, life science offices, and more.


Austin's zoning and platting commission approved a recommendation to rezone the site during its April 15 meeting, and it will next go to City Council for approval in May.
