Part of the Marriott Bonvoy family of hotels, Downright Austin will bring 367 guest rooms, including five suites, to the Red River District in the spring.
A closer look
Downright Austin, which will transform the former Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol, will overlook the skyline of downtown Austin. In a news release, officials said the aesthetic inspiration is drawn from Austin residents—who "embrace their true selves, pursue their desires, and do so with unwavering enthusiasm."
"The architecture boldly expresses this ethos through its unapologetic pink hue and modernist geometry," officials said in the news release. "The building seamlessly blends postmodern elements with timeless design, bridging the past and present of Austin. Featuring an open and airy ambiance, natural terra-cotta colors and textures, abundant greenery, natural light, and checkerboard design, the hotel will encapsulate the essence of Austin's vibrant spirit."
What's special about it?
Along with indoor and outdoor event space, officials of the 31,000-square-foot hotel will also partner with FBR Management—known for Lala's Little Nugget, Gibson Street Bar, Mean Eyed Cat and more—and Florida-based Lost Boy & Co. to bring two dining and cocktail concepts to the hotel. Officials said one of the restaurants will be located inside a sunken dining room, offering diners views of the pool.
What they're saying
“Our decision to open in Austin was inspired by the city’s distinct independent spirit and originality," said Erica Graham with Brookfield Asset Management, who is spearheading the project, in the news release. "With a commitment to bringing something fresh and dynamic to the lively landscape of Austin, Downright Austin will add an elevated social scene and an exciting calendar of curated programming and events.”
