Georgetown officials celebrated the opening of the second phase of Garey Park renovations at a Sept. 3 ribbon-cutting celebration.
What's new
Visitors can now enjoy $20 million in additions across the park grounds, officials said:
50,000-square-foot skate park and pump track
Play Ranch updates including an expanded playground, new picnic shelters and an artificial turf lawn area
Upgrades and a 2,700-square-foot addition at Garey House
Updated hardscape improvements and a new footing mix in the Equestrian Center
New restrooms, expanded parking, accessible paths and a dedicated Memorial Pavilion
The history
The expansion was funded by a donation from Jack Garey, who passed away in 2022, according to city documents. Garey, who originally donated the park land to the city of Georgetown more than 20 years ago, stipulated in his will that the capital improvement funds must be utilized within five years of his passing, documents state.
