Multiple contested races have emerged for the 2019 November city elections as of the Aug. 19 candidate filing deadline.
The last day write-in candidates can file is Aug. 23.
Two candidates, Maxfield Baker and Mark Gleason, who serve on the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission, will be running for Place 1 on City Council. Council Member Lisa Prewitt, the incumbent, will not be seeking re-election.
Prewitt, instead, announced through her Facebook page that she will be running for a Hays County Precinct 3 commissioner in 2020.
She was
first elected November 2013 and is currently the mayor pro tem.
Saul Gonzalez, who is at the end of his
first term on City Council, has picked up two challengers in his bid for re-election to Place 2: Devin Barrett and Lisa Marie Coppoletta. Gonzalez
was elected December 2016 in a runoff election.
The last day to register to vote is Oct. 7. Early voting is scheduled from Oct. 21 to Nov. 1. Election Day is Nov. 5.
