The Old Stagecoach Road project will reconstruct and widen a 2.2-mile section of roadway into a four-lane minor arterial from FM 2770 to Veterans Drive. The Center Street project includes improvements to Jack C. Hays Trail from Veterans Drive to north of Witte Road. It will also expand Center Street from Veterans Drive to Main Street in downtown Kyle, increasing it from two to three lanes, according to the Kyle Road Bond website.
The overview
City Council was presented with two construction options:
- Bid projects independently as designs are completed to expedite delivery.
- Delay bidding on some segments until others are finished to minimize traffic impacts during construction.
The rejected second option would have extended the project's completion to Q3 2028, increasing the construction timeline and potential travel impacts by 15 months. It also would have resulted in an estimated $770,000 in additional costs due to inflation but would have limited the travel time increase to 17%.
Estimated travel time impacts, according to the presentation, were calculated using the worst-case construction scenario for each alternative, predicting travel times for each direction and segment.
The background
In November 2022, Kyle voters approved Proposition A, a road bond funding eight transportation projects across the city, totaling 10.3 miles of new roads, reconstructions, and widening projects to improve Kyle’s transportation network.
