After the Texas Department of Transportation conducted a speed study on both I-35 frontage roads within Kyle's jurisdiction, Kyle City Council voted to set the speed limit at 55 mph on the entire northbound frontage road.
The speed limit was previously 45 mph. TxDOT will replace the existing signs with updated signage.
Long story short
The TxDOT speed study found the 85th percentile speed—the speed at or below 85% of drivers travel on a particular road segment—was 58 mph, warranting an increase in the maximum speed limit.
