Buda City Council approved a $585,130 contract with Jerdon Enterprise, L.P. for an interim solution to the Main Street East Extension Project—a project geared toward improving mobility from I-35 east to Firecracker Drive—on Nov. 6.

A quick note

The Main Street Street East Extension Project includes widening the existing roadway from one lane in each direction with a center lane to two lanes in each direction with a median and left turn lanes, according to the city’s bond website.

What you need to know

The interim solution project looks to alleviate traffic congestion at I-35 and Main Street, and will be funded through the city’s 2021 Bond Program. The project was added to the city’s Capital Improvement Plan as an interim solution because the desired full build-out of East Main Street is currently unaffordable, according to agenda documents.

The project is fully within existing right-of-way, which means there will be no acquisition of private property.

What happens next?

Construction is anticipated to begin in December 2024 and conclude in May 2025, according to the city’s bond website.
