A six-month pilot program will expand the service area and operational hours of Spin Electric Scooter services in San Marcos.

Effective July 1, the pilot program expanded the service area to the east side of I-35 with new deployment zones along Aquarena Springs Drive and Uhland Road. An incentive of 20% off their trip will be given to a rider when the scooter is returned to a designated deployment zone, according to a news release.

The pilot program was approved by City Council on May 7.

“This new service will provide reliable alternative transportation options to our community that meets City Council’s strategic initiative for multimodal transportation,” Multimodal Parking Initiatives Manager Charles Campbell said. “The electric scooters will provide east side residents and visitors with a convenient, micromobility option for last-mile trips. Residents interested in reserving an electric scooter can do so by downloading the Spin mobile application.”

Spin scooters will be available for rent 24/7. Safety measures implemented on the scooters include restricted and slow ride zones, front and rear lighting, and a restricted speed limit of 15 mph from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to a news release.
