The busy downtown San Marcos intersection of Hopkins Street and Guadalupe Street is receiving upgrades to existing traffic signals to accommodate a westbound left turn lane.

The gist

The Capitol Improvement Plan will occur on Hopkins Street from North LBJ Drive to Fredericksburg Street. In addition to adding a turn lane, the project will resurface and restripe traffic lanes, install pedestrian push buttons, and construct Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps. The project will cost approximately $500,000 and be funded through CIP funds, according to a city spokesperson.

What else?

Construction on the project began in March and is anticipated to be completed by May. Traffic in the area will be impacted by intermittent lane closures during the project. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times, according to a city spokesperson.

More information about the ongoing construction project can be found on the city's website.
