Several transportation projects are underway in San Marcos. Here are updates on two projects affecting drivers.

I-35 at Hwy. 123

In September, the southbound I-35 at Hwy. 123 exit was closed to begin constructing a new entrance ramp in its place, according to the Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Antonio Luján. Traffic is redirected to the CM Allen Parkway exit. The new ramp is expected to open this spring.

The southbound I-35 Wonder World Drive exit was also closed temporarily for ramp reconfiguration, but is now back open to traffic.

The ramp reversals are part of TxDOT’s project to improve mobility at I-35 and Hwy. 123. The project is expected to be completed in early 2025, weather permitting.

Next, crews will finalize work on the southbound I-35 bridge at Hwy. 123, according to Luján.

Hwy. 123 at DeZavala

This project will relocate a 12-foot water main out of the Hwy. 123 right of way and into an easement on private property.

The relocation will clear the way for TxDOT to add right- and left-turning lanes, crosswalks and to improve drainage. The project is funded by TxDOT but is unrelated to the Mobility35 Program, according to Luján.

Construction work is projected to start next week. Drivers should expect single lane closures.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2025.
