The Robert S. Light Boulevard extension is slated to open June 6 at 5 a.m. in Buda. The Texas Department of Transportation
broke ground on the project in October 2021 to extend the road and connect it to FM 1626.
The growth in the county was a major driving factor for the project, which has been in the works for nearly a decade, according to former Hays County Commissioner Mark Jones. The hope with the project is that it will alleviate traffic and congestion on Main Street in Buda and divert trucks away from downtown.
The road is around 2 miles long and cost $17.7 million to construct.
