San Marcos City Council voted Dec. 2 to reduce 30 mph speed limits by 5 mph in portions of the Heritage and Dunbar neighborhoods near downtown San Marcos. The resolution also applies to a section of Hopkins Street currently under construction.

The decision was the latest in a series of votes to reduce speed limits in the area to improve safety and traffic flow.

City Council voted Oct. 7 to reduce the speed limit to 25 mph on Burleson Street between Moore Street and Prospect Street.

Temporary speed reductions were also implemented Sept. 25 on sections of San Antonio Street and Belvin Street to improve the flow of detoured traffic due to the reconstruction of Hopkins Street. Those changes were made permanent by the Dec. 2 vote.
