With the 2016-17 fiscal year quickly ending, Kyle City Council is proposing a $75.5 million budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year. One of the proposed budget changes entails a $0.0332 reduction in the property tax rate, from $0.5748 in FY 2016-17 to $0.5416. Early this year, the city of Kyle asked residents to give their opinion on the city’s services and tax rates. The survey garnered nearly 400 responses. Out of the results, 49.9 percent of responders said that Kyle’s property tax rate was just the right amount while 25.7 percent said it was too high.
However, when it came to services paid by city taxes, 45.8 percent of residents thought the city could be doing more; 49.6 percent said the city was providing just enough.
There will be two public hearings for Kyle citizens to provide comment about the budget and tax rates to the City Council on Aug. 15 and 22 at 7 p.m at City Hall.
