ATX Specialty Foods is set to move into the Hays Commerce Center at 301 Vista Ridge Drive, Kyle, a mixed-use development off I-35. that broke ground in 2018. AXT Specialty Foods will anchor the 100-acre parcel of land with 53,000 square feet dedicated to a custom-built production facility and 20,000 square feet of commercial space. ATX Specialty Foods produces dips and sauces for a variety of brands and restaurants, including Hopdoddy and Julio’s Sauces. The company is set to fully move into the commerce center this summer.

Allen Shy, owner of CRAFThouse in downtown San Marcos, is opening a new restaurant across the street called the Blind Salamander Cantina. Located at 301 N. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, the new cantina’s menu will feature tacos as well as margaritas. The new business is slated to open by late January. A phone number is not yet available.

Redbird Flight Simulations is slated to open a new facility at the Hays Commerce Center at 301 Vista Ridge Drive, Kyle. The company will be investing $2.2 million for the approximately 50,000-square-foot facility, which is set to be completed this summer. The new facility will bring in over 70 full-time jobs to the area. Redbird was founded in 2006 to help make aviation more accessible with modern technology and engineering.

Venice Nail Spa is set to open by the end of January at 4500 S. FM 1626, Ste. 100, Kyle. The new nail salon will offer spa-like services such as manicures, pedicures and more. A phone number is not yet available.


Bad Ass Foods relocated to Railhouse Bar, located at 107 E. Center St., Kyle, in November after the one-year lease at Papa Jack’s Bar ended. Now in a food truck, Bad Ass Foods serves burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and more. 737-373-5537.

Name Change

All BBVA locations in the U.S. converted to PNC branches in October, including one bank in San Marcos. BBVA Group finalized the sale of its U.S. banking operations over the summer, according to a press release. The company will retain its U.S. presence through BBVA Securities and the New York branch, which will serve large corporate and institutional clients. Following the acquisition, PNC is the fifth largest commercial banking organization by assets in the country. The San Marcos location that transitioned to PNC is located at 300 S. Rogelio’s Restaurant, located at 625 S. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, closed Dec. 24 for renovations. The air conditioning unit is set to be replaced as well as lighting fixtures throughout the restaurant. Rogelio’s is known for its lunch and dinner Tex-Mex cuisine and is slated to reopen Jan. 17. 512-392-4141.


Cici's Pizza, located at 1101 Thorpe Lane, Ste. 107, San Marcos, closed in November. A sign posted on the front door stated it has permanently closed after serving the community for the past three years. The location of the chain opened in September 2018 and is known for its pizza buffet. The closest location of Cici's Pizza is located at 5695 Kyle Parkway, Ste. 400, Kyle.
