San Marcos staff is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to participate in two surveys launched the week of Feb. 17, providing insight into how the community experiences downtown parking, according to a Feb. 26 news release.
The overview
The surveys aim to guide decisions that enhance accessibility, efficiency and convenience. One survey targets residents and visitors, while the other is for business owners and employees. Both assess parking availability, ease of use and areas for improvement.
According to a news release, feedback from the surveys will help city staff and the Parking Advisory Board explore parking management strategies, including the possibility of paid parking.
The resident and visitor survey includes questions on:
- Typical parking times and primary reasons for parking downtown
- Support for paid parking if funds are used solely for downtown improvements
- Preferred uses for revenue generated from paid parking
- The most significant parking-related issue they face
- Business location and type
- Parking the business relies on
- Parking concerns for the business and its customers
- Parking availability near the business
- Desired improvements for on-street parking
According to the San Marcos website, downtown parking is either limited to two hours in certain zones or four hours Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some downtown surface lots allow monthly passes to park in the lot.
