The San Marcos City Council voted unanimously Feb. 21 to appoint Stephanie Reyes as the city manager effective immediately. Reyes has served as interim city manager since Feb. 1, 2022, following then-City Manager Bert Lumbreras' retirement.

"I have known her since she was in college and a student worker, and I have always admired [Reyes]. I knew her through Leadership San Marcos ... since she was working here at the city and at the city manager's office when I was on the council from [1996-2002]," Mayor Jane Hughson said. "I have always found her to be energetic, a hard worker, honest, and she's open; you can talk to her, [and] she listens."

Reyes has worked for the city of San Marcos for more than 20 years in various roles. She holds a master's degree in public administration from Texas State University and has earned many accolades for her work over the years.

"I'm honored to be able to take on this role in this community that I love so much. It's been special to me to be in the organization in the way that I have and to grow with the organization," Reyes said. "I really look forward to the future and anything I can do do help make San Marcos an even better place."
