The city of San Marcos announced its first ever Winter Heater Donation Drive, starting Dec. 1, in partnership with Community Action Inc. of Central Texas and The Salvation Army San Marcos. Space heaters donated or purchased for the drive will be distributed to residents in need.

“Because we received outstanding support from residents during the 2022 Summer Fan Drive, we decided to carry this initiative into the winter months to help members in our community who do not have or cannot afford heating in their home,” Director of Utilities Tyler Hjorth said in a statement. “In addition to monetary donations, we are happy to announce that SMTX Utilities is utilizing an Amazon wish list for those who would like to donate with the click of a button.”

Community members who would like to donate a space heater can drop it off at the San Marcos Electric Utility Office, located at 1040 N Hwy. 123, San Marcos, through Dec. 22.

Community members who would like to purchase a space heater to be donated can purchase through the city's Amazon wishlist and have it delivered to the Public Services Center, located at 2217 E. McCarty Lane, San Marcos.

Any monetary contributions will go toward space heater purchases.
