As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, the 775-acre proposed development along RM 967 was not well received by the Buda Planning and Zoning Commission or the City Council as members of both entities expressed concerns over safety, transportation and increased traffic. Additionally, more than 800 residents have signed a petition on Change.org in opposition of the development.
In an effort to take the commission's and council’s feedback into consideration to keep the project moving forward, MileStone’s new presentation includes building a connector to FM 1626 from RM 967 within 60 days of the issuance of permits, more parks in Buda's ETJ, more commercial use land and more.
Neighboring residents were also concerned about the roads in place that cannot handle the traffic as well as delays during school drop-offs and pickups, according to the new presentation. MileStone’s proposed solutions are to build connectors to alleviate traffic and improve the road network to accommodate current and future traffic.
MileStone is also developing a website for the project to provide a centralized source of information.
If talks with the city continue, MileStone's goal is to reach a development agreement by July so road construction may begin in October.
The Buda City Council will meet March 22 at City Hall, located at 405 E. Loop St., Buda, at 6 p.m.
