Buda City Council approved to amend the small-business program 2021-22 budget to reallocate $100,000 in general funds and divide it into 10 separate grants for up to $10,000 each through the Buda Economic Development Corp. on Dec. 21.

The fiscal year 2021-22 budget allocated $115,000 for the small-business program, so there is no additional funding being provided to the BEDC; it is simply being reapportioned for efficiency with no specific project or use of the remaining $15,000.

The grants are to be utilized by small businesses for interior and exterior improvements on commercial properties. The council agreed to preapprove the allotment of the funds to businesses as applicable after the application process so as to not have to review each one individually.

Traci Anderson, the executive director of the BEDC, mentioned that in speaking with attorneys, this was the best course of action in taking the funding provided by the city and best utilizing it in the small-business incentive program.
