The city of San Marcos has several infrastructure and facility projects scheduled for completion in 2021, according to Kristy Stark, director of communications.

The expansion of the San Marcos Public Library is scheduled for completion in the second quarter, and the new Public Service Center’s substantial completion is expected in September.

The new Public Service Center will house staff from several departments, including water, wastewater, electric, traffic, transit, general services, transportation and conservation. Nearly 250 employees will move to the $44 million center on Clovis R. Barker Road, Stark said.

A new fire training facility is expected to be completed later in the year. It will provide the fire department with a residential and high rise live fire training building, and will facilitate fire, police and EMS training.

Also in 2021, the Rattler Substation will be the first built in San Marcos in 15 years. It will come online near Clovis Barker Road and will increase the utility’s system capacity by 17%. Electric utilities will also benefit from the Blanco Gardens electrical system upgrade, which will replace aging infrastructure with an underground system.
