Ask the editor: Who covers my community now?

Brett ThorneWho covers my community now?

For the past five years, I have had the privilege of reporting on the goings-on in San Marcos, Buda, Kyle and the rest of Hays County. This will be my last issue as editor because a new opportunity is taking me to New Orleans, but I am so excited to introduce our new editor, Marie Albiges.

Marie has spent the past year reporting on Central Austin’s development, higher education and neighborhood issues. Prior to that she covered development and environmental issues in the Lake Travis and Westlake areas. But just because she comes from Austin does not mean Marie is unfamiliar with Hays County. Like many Central Texas residents, she regularly ventures to the San Marcos River, and she appreciates the cultural and recreational value it provides this area.

It’s been a pleasure reporting on San Marcos, Kyle and Buda, and I am so excited the news coverage is in the hands of capable journalists such as Marie and our Kyle and Buda reporter, Starlight Williams.

If you see them at a meeting or event, say hello. I’m sure they will love getting to know the friendly faces in Hays County as much as I have.
