Garcia's Mexican Restaurant reopens in Buda after yearlong renovations

Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant will reopen in July after temporarily closing for renovations in June 2024. Owner Curtis Garcia anticipated the closure to last for two to three months, according to previous Community Impact reporting. However, construction was delayed due to issues with the site plan for a desired expansion, according to Garcia.

What to know about MUDs, HOAs and other special districts

Residents in neighborhoods and housing subdivisions can occasionally see, or even vote on, the creation of special districts to provide additional services and resources such as utilities, public safety improvements and sidewalks. While some special districts have overlapping characteristics, these special districts can vary in terms of responsibilities, regulations and fees.

New Chick-fil-A coming soon to Buda


A new Chick-fil-A location is coming soon to Buda off of FM 1626 next to Lamb’s Tire & Automotive. According to a statement from Chick-fil-A Inc., officials are in the early stages of development and hope to serve new guests in the future.

Austin-based restaurant Z'Tejas closes last location in Kyle

Austin-based Tex-Mex restaurant Z'Tejas closed in Kyle on June 30. Restaurant officials announced the closure in a message on the Z'Tejas website, citing market challenges. Z'Tejas closed its Avery Ranch location in March and its original Sixth Street location in 2023, the same year the restaurant opened in Kyle.

Gil's Broiler & Manske Roll Bakery adds options for indoor fun, opens second spot


A longstanding downtown San Marcos restaurant has undergone renovations and added a second location. Gil’s Broiler & Manske Roll Bakery, 328 N. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, closed for two weeks in June to add more indoor attractions to the restaurant, owner Cristian Becerra told Community Impact in a written statement.

Kyle Mayor to step down in November, 1 year before term ends

Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell announced on social media the evening of July 15 that he will resign from office in November, one year before the end of his final term. Mitchell said serving as mayor has been a meaningful experience, but it requires him to set aside personal goals and career opportunities.
