The Hays County Local Health Department is set to host two health-diet forums Sept. 20 and 27 at Lehman High School, located at 1700 Lehman Road, Kyle, to address common health issues among the Hispanic and Latino communities.

“Diabetes and other health issues, many of which are related to our diets, are often under-treated among Hispanics,” said Matthew Gonzales, Health Equity and Community Engagement program manager, in a statement. “For Hispanic Heritage Month, we wanted to bring to light common health problems within the Hispanic community. Dieticians at the forums will share information about how to improve one’s health and even prevent certain diseases.”

The goal of the forums is to empower the communities in Hays County to take charge of their health and make positive changes toward a healthier lifestyle, Gonzales said, as diabetes and obesity disproportionately affect Hispanic and Latino communities.

The forum Sept. 20 will be in Spanish, and the forum Sept. 27 will be in English. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for both forums.
