The Starlight Symphony Orchestra will begin its free summer concert series “LOL” June 3 at 7 p.m. and a preconcert dinner and fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. at the Wimberley Valley Winery, 2825 Lone Man Mountain Road, Driftwood.

On June 4, the all-volunteer orchestra will perform again at 4 p.m. at the Wimberley First Baptist Church, 15951 Winters Mill Parkway, Wimberley. Other concert dates for the rest of the summer are to be announced at a later date, according to a press release.

The concert series will feature a number of light-hearted compositions, such as composer Gioachino Rossini’s “Barber of Seville Overture,” Julius Fucik’s “Entrance of the Gladiators” and an interactive game of “guess that tune” with the audience.

“We will play excerpts of songs that most people will get pretty easily (especially if they were around in the 80s),” said David Oertel, music director and conductor. “Audience members will go to Kahoot.it on their smartphone for free game play. You get extra points for quicker answers. We have fun prizes for winners,” he said.

“It’ll be something we have never done before. Bring your phone to the concert and leave it on! Truly fun for the whole family.”

The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is a regional community orchestra with members of all ages from throughout Central Texas. Tickets for the fundraiser are available through eventbrite.com.
