Here are some local and family-friendly events to add to your calendar.

March 2-5: Support local law enforcement

The ninth annual Capital of Texas Police Motorcycle Chute Out will return to Buda for another opportunity to raise funds for Sunshine Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children with cancer. The event will feature local law enforcement agencies competing on different tracks, open practices, food, silent auctions and more. 9 a.m. (March 2), 7:30 a.m. (March 3, 5), 7 a.m. (March 4). March 4: Go for a family skate

Lace up the roller skates for a family night of skating at Ash Pavilion. The family-friendly event will feature food and music. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a chaperone over 21. March 5: Clean up the river

Take part in the 37th annual Great Texas River Clean Up to pick up trash and liter along the San Marcos River. All volunteers will be provided gloves and bags to pick up trash, as well as food for participating. Those interested in participating should register as soon as possible. Participants can select areas in San Marcos or in Kyle to volunteer at. 8:30 a.m. Free. Locations vary on selected area of participation. 512-618-9951, 512-262-1010. www.sanmarcostx.gov

March 14-18: Take a trip to the 1980s

Travel back in time to the 1980s through the Kyle Parks and Recreation Department's spring break camp. Children will participate in outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing throughout city attractions such as Mary Kyle Hartson City Square Park and Lake Kyle at the 1980s-themed camp. The camp will provide snacks and supplies needed for daily activities. Registration closes March 9 for the 30 spots available. Twenty spots are reserved for second- through fifth-graders, while the remainder are for sixth- to ninth-graders. 7 a.m.-5 p.m. (daily). $100 (per child). Krug Activity Center, 101 S. March 16-27: Join the circus

The traveling Broadway-style Venardos Circus will make a pitstop in Buda after COVID-19-related cancellations for 16 shows over a week and a half. The circus will showcase its crew of performers, acrobats and more in the nostalgic red and white striped tent. The main show is approximately an hour and a half long and is an animal-free show. Classic circus treats such as cotton candy, popcorn and fresh lemonade will be available for purchase. 1 p.m. (March 19-20, 26-27), 4 p.m. (March 19-20, 26-27), 7 p.m. (March 17-19, 23-26). $16.50 (age 12 and under), $27 (age 13 and up). March 24: Be an ally

The office of Disability Services at Texas State University will host a hybrid event to promote awareness about ableism and help educate the community on how to be an ally for individuals with disabilities. March 25: Dance the night away

Texas Old Town, a wedding and event venue in Kyle, will host a night of food, drinks and dancing at its Tejas Hall. Guests can participate in dance lessons by Valerie Ryan, owner of QuickSilver Dancers, which specializes in country, western, swing dancing and more. March 26: Support a good cause

Willie’s Joint will host a festival at Buda Amphitheater & City Park called the Texas Brewers Festival to be headlined by Vanilla Ice. Proceeds of the festival will go to the Texas Firewalkers, a nonprofit organization aiding families affected by residential fires, and the rebuilding of Papa Jack’s.
