Jan. 15-17: March for MLK

The Dunbar Heritage Association is hosting a three-day celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., starting with a children’s event at the San Marcos Public Library on Jan. 15. Snacks and craft materials will be provided for kids to create their own posters for the annual march. Day two of the celebration will feature the first annual Hays County CommonUnity MLK Jr. Festival with live music and vendors. The finale to the celebration will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the LBJ and MLK Crossroads Memorial followed by a march through downtown. 10:30 a.m. (Jan. 15), 4 p.m. (Jan. 16), 9:30 a.m. (Jan. 17). Jan. 15: Protect your pet

The nonprofit organization Pet Prevent A Litter of Central Texas, or PALS, is hosting a low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic for community members in need. The organization is dedicated to helping Hays County residents keep their pets and lower the homeless animal population. Appointments are not necessary for the dog and cat services provided, which include microchipping, heartworm testing, flea prevention and more. 9 a.m. $8-$25 (based on service rendered). 215 W. Jan. 16: Witness the king of rock and roll

The Kyle Area Senior Zone, a nonprofit organization set to provide support and community to seniors age 50 and older, is hosting a belated birthday bash in honor of Elvis Presley at the Krug Activity Building. Dennis Hall, an Elvis Presley impersonator, will perform some of the king’s greatest hits. Jan. 17: Celebrate MLK's legacy

The Kyle Area Zone and the Kyle Public Library are hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a screening of the 2008 documentary "The Witness: From the Balcony of Room 306." Jan. 20: Prepare for the fall semester

Valor Public Schools is hosting a parent information night for those interested in enrolling their children at the new campus opening soon for the fall semester . Jan. 21 Vote in an art competition

The Inspired Minds Art Center is hosting the Buda Art Brawl, an art competition with all the proceeds going to fund Art for All scholarships to provide an art education to those in financial need. Watch as eight artists battle in three timed rounds, and the audience chooses the winner at the end. Jan. 22: Attend an anniversary gala

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum is hosting its 15th anniversary gala celebration and silent auction to raise funds to renovate the museum’s auditorium. The event will also feature dinner and guest speaker W.F. Strong, Texas historic and culture commentator for the Texas Standard Radio Network on NPR. 6:30 p.m. $75. Jan. 29 Travel in time for a murder mystery

The Kyle Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 20th anniversary gala, "Death of a Gangster," a 1920s-1940s-themed murder mystery event. The gala will feature performances by The Murder Mystery Co., a professional acting troupe, throughout the evening with skits and evidence to solve a crime.
