Buda residents will have to cut their water usage beginning Aug. 24 when Stage 1 water restrictions go into effect due to a lack of rain, a press release from the city stated.

Lawns may still be watered twice weekly, but additional waterings could draw a fine of up to $2,000 per offense in addition to a surcharge on the resident's utility bill.

Sprinkler systems, both in-ground and hose-end styles, may only be used between 7 p.m. and 10 a.m.

Residential properties with odd-numbered addresses may use sprinklers on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Thursdays and Sundays are delegated to even-numbered addresses.

However, the city recommends watering lawns only one day per week to conserve water.

Additional guidelines for drought restrictions are available on the city's website.
