How we got here

Runoff elections are held when candidates do not meet the majority vote requirement of 50% plus one vote.

In the Nov. 5 general election, two other candidates were vying for San Marcos City Council, Place 5—Griffin Spell and Atom Von Arndt. Spell received 24.24% of the votes and Arndt received 17.04% of the votes.

Gonzalez led with 32.43%, or 6,414 of the votes, according to official results and Saucedo trailed behind with 26.29% of the vote. Since Gonzalez and Saucedo secured the majority of votes they qualified to enter into a runoff election.
