With all precincts reporting, unofficial voting results for Hays County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 2 show Democratic candidate J.R. Mendoza winning after receiving 58.19% of total votes. Mendoza's opponent, Democrat Amanda Calvert, received 41.81% of total votes.

The details

No Republican candidate ran in the Republican primary for the position.


Mendoza received 74 absentee votes and 180 votes throughout early voting. He also received 119 votes on election day.

Calvert received 78 absentee votes, 180 votes throughout early voting and 96 votes on election day.

There were 2,933 ballots cast countywide, which represents 1.65% of Hays County's registered voters.

Mendoza said he was humbled and appreciative of all the voters who elected him.

"It was a team effort, from family, friends, a lot of old school grass roots work and God's will," Mendoza said in a Facebook post.

He also thanked Calvert for her family, for her ideas and for improving the community.

Calvert thanked her family for their support, congratulated Mendoza on his victory and said she hopes he will continue the work he has been doing in the courts.


"I want to thank my family for getting on this wild ride with me, not knowing where we might end up, and allowing me to pursue my dreams," Calvert said in a Facebook post.

Early voting results in the May 28 runoff election show J.R. Mendoza in the lead for Hays County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 2 against Amanda Calvert. Mendoza has garnered 254 of the votes and Calvert has received 172 votes.

What else?

Mendoza and Calvert are both running as Democrats. In early voting, there were 1,921 ballots cast countywide, which represents 0.72% of Hays County's 177,740 voters.


Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots. Totals from ballots cast May 28 have yet to be released.
