Improvements at San Marcos High School will be underway starting in June as part of a 2023 bond project. The project, which came in under the proposed budget, will include three phases of renovations, starting with more parking and a band practice pad.

The details

The first phase includes administration building renovations and relocation of utilities, in addition to the parking and band practice improvements. Construction is set to begin June 2025, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The project’s second phase includes the following:
  • Band hall addition
  • Black box addition
  • Performance area renovations
  • Performance area relocation
Phase 2 construction is anticipated to start in September 2025 and continue through August 2027.

The third phase, which will complete the bond project, will focus on special education renovations and the addition of a new classroom. Phase 3 is anticipated to begin in December 2025 and finish in August 2027.

The cost

San Marcos CISD trustees unanimously approved a $4.8 million guaranteed maximum price, or GMP, for phase one at a March 17 meeting, as previously reported by Community Impact. The adopted GMP came in under budget, district staff said.

Trustees recently approved a GMP from Satterfield & Pontikes for project Phases 2 and 3 during a May 19 board meeting.

The district initially allotted $27.8 million of bond funds for phases two and three however, the approved amount came in at a lower price of $27.6 million—about $175,000 cheaper than the project was originally budgeted, according to district documents.
