The board of trustees unanimously voted to adopt an order calling for a bond election during its regular meeting Jan. 27.
Some context
The scope of the bond has gone through several iterations since the Facilities and Bond Oversight Committee first presented its recommendations to the trustees Nov. 18.
The current recommendation, which will go before voters in May, includes growth, safety, facility rehabilitation, fine arts, athletics and technology projects spread across 5 propositions, totaling $968.6 million.
During a special bond development meeting Jan. 15, several trustees suggested moving most of the fine arts and athletics projects previously listed in Proposition D to Proposition A, which is now reflected in the official order.
On the ballot
Voters will have the opportunity to vote for each proposition as they see fit.
- Proposition A, $498.9 million: elementary, middle and high school campus renovations; elementary No. 18 construction; elementary No. 19 and middle school No. 7 design fees; school buses; Career and Technology Education improvements; middle school athletic improvements; fine arts replacements; and more
- Proposition B, $396 million: full turn-key package for the district's fourth comprehensive high school with a 2,800 student capacity
- Proposition C, $6 million: high school No. 4's stadium expansion to accommodate 1,000 visitors
- Proposition D, $51.3 million: four outdoor, covered and lighted Multi-Purpose Activity Centers, or MPACs, for fine arts and athletic practices and rehearsals
- Proposition E, $16.2 million: network switches; phone system and public announcement sound system replacements; new laptops; photocopiers and printshop machines; uninterruptible power supplies across the district
"I don't like the idea of overburdening our tax base, but at the same time, it's growth, and I think the need is evident," trustee Geoff Seibel said. "We need to make room for the students and the influx of people that are loving our community and are coming to join us and see all the great things that we're doing here."
What's next
Chief Communication Officer Tim Savoy said a more detailed bond fact sheet is set to be posted to the district website. Additionally, personnel from the athletics, fine arts and other departments will hold community presentations in the coming weeks about its bond projects.
Early voting will run from April 22-29. Election day is May 3.
